● Aoi Matsuri (Hollyhock Festival)
Over 500 people dressed as Heian-era nobles parade from the Imperial Palace to Shimogamo Shrine and Kamigamo Shrines!
● Gion Matsuri
One of Japan’s biggest festivals with over 1,000 years of history, lasting a whole month with various events. The main festivities, called the “Saki Matsuri” and “Ato Matsuri,” draw huge crowds and fill the city with festive energy.
● Kyoto Gozan Okuribi (Five Mountain Fires)
A Buddhist ritual to send off ancestral spirits, where giant bonfires shaped like kanji characters—like “Daimonji” and others—are lit on the mountains around Kyoto.
● Jidai Matsuri (Festival of the Ages)
A grand historical parade with about 2,000 participants dressed to represent different eras, marching about 2 kilometers from Kyoto Imperial Palace to Heian Shrine. This festival represents Kyoto’s rich history from the Meiji Restoration back to the founding of Heian-kyo.
How much time you’ll need before you head out

Dressing takes about 15 minutes, and hairstyling takes another 15 minutes. But when you factor in checking in, choosing your yukata and accessories, and swapping your bags, it usually takes around 45 minutes to 1 hour. If it’s not busy, we can get you ready in about 45 minutes. During peak seasons, it’s best to estimate around 1 hour. The exact time depends on how long you take to pick out your yukata and accessories, so please use this as a rough estimate.
